Welcome to the Women of the world group blog!
My name is Teresa, I am chairperson of WoW and I have been living in Salford for two years now. When I first moved here I did not know anyone. I met Emily at the local parent and toddler group and we became friends. One day while in the St Sebastian’s community centre, we came across leaflets for women’s activities such as exercise classes, sewing, and cooking classes. Those classes have now ended. So now we would like to be able to offer these activities and more services for women by starting a women’s group.
There is no formula for how women should lead their lives. That is why we must respect the choices that each woman makes for herself and offer only support and friendship in a positive environment.
This wow group aims to bring women in the community together celebrating the contributions women make in everyday life: in the home-families rely on mothers and wives for emotional support, in their communities, and also as sisters and daughters.
My name is Emily and I am vice chair of the WOW group. I got involved in this group because it provided me with a forum to make friends easily, foster intercultural exchange, share ideas and also learn from one another. Having a group of women to lean on and draw strength from is priceless and well worth the time and effort. Being part of the group has built my self confidence within myself and other women in community we live in.
